Surgery/Spica Cast Preparation

My 11 year old son has hip subluxation and will be having bilateral VRDO with tenectomy and possibly open hip reduction and pelvic osteotomy with projected spica cast for 6+weeks. I’m trying to gather info on what I need to prep for this and any tips for cast care. Would love to connect to other families who have been through similar. We are in Vancouver and Dr Mulpuri is our surgeon..

AmyW Hi there, In 2015, my son Caden had bilateral femoral de-rotational osteotomies with Dr. Mulpuri. We did not have the spica-cast afterwards, so I am not sure if my advice will be relevant, but can answer questions about the after if you have specific after-care questions. We prepared for the surgery the same as we have with any other...ensured we had plenty of distractions and pillows of all shapes and sizes to aide in comfort available.
